Mediation

In addition to arbitration, JAG is committed to maintaining a roster of qualified and talented mediators with a variety of backgrounds.

Mediation is not about compromise, or "splitting the difference"--it is about a collaborative process to arrive at a solution that best meets the needs of the disputing parties.

Contact us to work with the following mediators:

Judge J. Miles Sweeney--Specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice disputes, business and construction disputes, labor and employment disputes.  See his full bio on the Principals page.

Dr. Kelley Still--Specializing in marital property settlement (not child custody), partnership dissolution, business interruption, breach of contract, other financial or business disputes.  See her full bio on the Principals page.

Nelson Nichols--Specializing in construction disputes.  Nelson A. Nichols has been pursuing excellence in construction for over 35 years, including owning his own commercial construction company, Nichols Construction Company, Inc., since 1979.  Since its inception, Nichols Construction has dealt with a diverse project load consisting of Retail and Wholesale, Office, Industrial, Loft Apartment Renovation, Historic Preservation, Mini-storage, Banking, Medical and Dental, and High-End Residential.

Even though Nichols was a mathematics major at Missouri Southern University, he always knew that construction would be his life’s work. Nichols’ superior analytical skills and ability to communicate and work with people from all walks of life contributed to his success as a general contractor.

The members of Judicial ADR Group and other attorneys approached Nichols about becoming a construction mediator because of his long reputation for fairness and integrity. His excellent problem solving skills and ability to diffuse contentious situations, coupled with his mediation training with the Washington University Law School provided through the Center for Dispute Resolution at Missouri State University, position Nichols to provide you with excellent mediation services.

Dean Karen Sweeney, MS Ed--Specializing in educational institution related disputes, including faculty issues, student grievances, and other administrative issues.
She has served over 30 years as Vice President and Dean of Students at Drury University where dispute resolution was a daily occurance for her.  Sweeney is currently serving as Head of School for The Summit Preparatory School in Springfield, Missouri.  As a native Kansan, she attended the University of Kansas for her undergraduate and graduate work in education. Studying for her graduate degree at KU provided her with the opportunity to serve them as Assistant Dean of Women and as Director of Nunemaker College. Her first mark on the Springfield community was as the first full-time counselor at the Springfield Catholic High School. The next year, 1973, she joined the Drury University staff and served for 33 years as Dean of women, Dean of Students, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Executive Vice President.

In 2006, she retired and, a year later, began a new career at The Summit. She has experience from Kindergarten through the university level both as a classroom teacher and as an administrator. She has been active in the Springfield community, serving as Board president of the Rape Crisis Center (now the Victim Center), Leadership Springfield, and the Junior League of Springfield. She is married to the recently retired Circuit Court Judge J. Miles Sweeney, and they have one daughter, Elizabeth, who is married and has two children.
